Sunday night I watched one of my favorite shows, The Celebrity Apprentice. This season has the most diverse and impressive cast ever featured on the show, which includes: David Cassidy, Dionne Warwick, Richard Hatch, NeNe Leakes, Marlee Matlin, Jose Canseco, La Toya Jackson, Gary Busey, Hope Dworaczyk, Lisa Rinna, Nikki Taylor, Meat Loaf, Lil John, Star Jones, John Rich and Mark McGrath.
After having watched four episodes, I noticed a distinct difference between the two teams. The men seem to work better together despite their issues or differences. But the women on the other hand, seem to be far more disagreeable, which is negatively impacting the dynamics and morale of their team. Although the women won the first challenge, their constant infighting and lack of cohesion has led to three consecutive losses.
In Sunday’s challenge, Atlanta’s own, ‘Lil John, one of the most sought-after artists and producers in hip-hop; and NeNe Leakes, from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta, served as project managers for their respective teams. Their task was to produce a 30 second commercial for ACN, a direct sales home-based business opportunity company. Team Backbone (the men) produced a comical and over-the-top commercial with an unexpected twist that some may consider “risqué.” Team A.S.A.P. (the women) produced a commercial that was heartfealt, endearing and spot-on with ACN’s brand messaging. But, they played it safe.
I enjoyed both commercials for different reasons; but the men did a much better job of capturing and engaging their audience. They took a calculated risk and it paid off big time.
Lil John was definitely in his comfort zone as the lead on the project because of his experience in the music industry. His team supported his vision even though there were a couple of members that did not agree with the concept for the commercial.
NeNe likewise did a great job of organizing her team, developing a concept and delegating responsibilities. But, her team was not as cohesive in supporting her! I was so dissapointed. I have seen this dynamic from time-to-time in my own professional life; and it always leaves me scratching my head as to why some women (not all) tend to be so antagonistic when it comes to working as a team. It just baffles me!
So, you be the judge. Check out the interaction between the members of team A.S.A.P. in this clip and share your comments below.
Is this an accurate representation of women in the work place? And, are men better team players than women?
